Wing Wing Isopods for Sale: Blue-Black with Golden Edges
Dark, glossy and edged in gold, the Wing Wing isopod (Ardentiella sp.) is one of the most striking isopods you can add to a collection. Its deep blue-black body is banded with soft pale lines, and bright yellow-orange patches light up the edges of its body near the head, the middle and the tail, like tiny wings. A black head and dark antennae with white tips complete the look. If you’re searching for rare isopods for sale that stop people in their tracks, Wing Wing is a standout.
About Wing Wing
Wing Wing belongs to the Ardentiella genus, a group of tropical isopods from Southeast Asia that was previously sold under the name Merulanella. These isopods are known for their bold colors and busy personalities. They spend plenty of time out in the open instead of hiding all day, which makes them especially fun to watch, and they’re good climbers that enjoy taller enclosures with branches, bark and textured surfaces. Against dark soil, green moss and fallen leaves, the golden edges really glow.
Wing Wing isopod care
Ardentiella need more attention than hardy beginner isopods, so Wing Wing is best for keepers with some experience.
- Enclosure: use a taller setup with branches, bark and climbing surfaces.
- Temperature and humidity: keep it warm and humid, with good ventilation.
- Moisture: create a gradient, with one area damp and another drier. Avoid stagnant, waterlogged substrate.
- Substrate: use deep organic soil mixed with leaf litter and rotting hardwood.
- Hides: provide plenty of cover so the colony feels secure.
- Calcium: this is very important. Offer a source such as limestone, cuttlebone or crushed eggshell.
- Food: feed a staple diet of rotting white wood and decaying leaf litter, plus forest moss or lichen and a protein source. Offer vegetables or fruit for hydration, and remove them quickly, since they can mold within a day.
- Stability: keep conditions steady, since sudden changes can stress the colony.
A great addition to a collection
Wing Wing pairs beautifully with other Ardentiella such as Ember Bee, Red Diablo, Tricolor, Scarlet and Pink Lambo, though each line should be kept in its own container to preserve pure lines. With patience and stable conditions, a healthy starter group can grow into a colony that becomes the highlight of your collection.
