Springtails Culture started the way most good things do — out of frustration. As a vivarium and dart frog keeper, I kept running into the same wall: the species I actually wanted weren’t available, and the ones that were available weren’t raised with any real care. Poor cultures, misidentified species, no guarantees. I got tired of it and decided to do it myself.
What started as a personal obsession with keeping and studying springtails — their biology, their ecology, their extraordinary diversity — turned into something I could share. Today, Springtails Culture is a solo-run, in-house breeding operation based in New Baden, Illinois, raising over 20 species under carefully controlled conditions: the right substrate, the right humidity, the right feeding regime, for every single culture we sell. No reselling. No middlemen. Every animal on this site was born and raised here.
We carry everything from the most accessible beginner cultures to some of the rarest collector species in the world — things you genuinely won’t find anywhere else. And every listing is written honestly: accurate scientific names, transparent taxonomy notes where the science is still being settled, and no inflated claims. We sell what we know, and we know what we sell.
